How to plan a wedding in 2 days in Rarotonga, Cook Islands

Find the perfect man/woman, fall in love with him/her, and ask him/her to marry you (make sure he/she will say yes, otherwise it won’t be fun). This could take a while, but after that it only takes a maximum of two days to have a perfect wedding.

Day 1

Make sure you have your passports and birth certificates (a copy of the birth certificate works fine, but you will need a translation of it if it is not in English).

Decide where you want to get married, because they will ask you the address.
I suggest Muri Beach, in front of the rugby field (wonderful setting with the Koromiri and Taakoka motus).

Head to the Court House. Fill the forms. Ask for a Marriage Celebrant.
I recommend Mr Taepae Tuteru. He is very sweet and even wrote us a poem.

Get something nice to wear in your wedding day (a nice dress for her and a nice shirt for him made in Rarotonga) at “Polynesia by Design”.

Get a photographer (you can check in the internet or ask in the Tourism Office). Have a short meeting with him to explain what you want.
I suggest Hinoi Henry (very cool, was there on time, and has a funny style – we have some amazing photos).

Day 2

Find a florist; reserve all the flowers you will need (bouquet, flowers for her hair, lei for him, flowers to spread on the floor/sand, etc).
I recommend “Raro Florist” in Muri.

Find a hairdresser for her.
I recommend Caroline (ask the florist at “Raro Florist” for her phone). She can come to your place (she came to my bungalow at 5:15 am; we got married at the sunrise and it was absolutely beautiful).

Buy the wedding rings. If nothing appeals to you just buy any cheap (silver) rings to exchange. It’s a must!

Get a cameraman. Believe me, you will want a movie of it!
I strongly recommend Peter Petero from “Digital Factory”.

Allow one day in between your wedding and the two days above to relax.

Enjoy your day and have a long and happy marriage :)

PS: You can prepare everything in one day, now that you know everything you need to know, but we had to prepare everything from scratch.
